I Ask Why

The girl on the street corner can't wave back at me

I asked her why and she had to think

She turned away and said that times really have changed

I don't know why she looked the same

Oh, I ask why all her love I'll have to lose today

Oh, I ask why all her time she'll spend to turn away from me

Oh, I ask why

Why must you play this charade with me?

The girl from the sandbox once wore a necklace that I had made

I don't know why she forgot those days

She said from beneath her pearls that these were the real things

I don't know why she looked so fake

The girl from laundry just had waved back at me

I don't know why I forgot her name

She said from beneath her clothes that times really have changed

I don't know why she's bothering me
